WONDERFULLY MADE.

A sewing machine binds a seam, which lasts until the thread perishes.  God’s wonderful healing of wounds can permanently hold tissues together for life. Consider the heart, pumping through miles of arteries and veins, coping with extra exertion, while resting between beats. With its ‘lub-dub’ action, it preserves life with 4,000,000,000 beats

At the moment of conception, 46 chromosomes of father and mother merge, while physical characteristics of the embryo form, producing likenesses to father and mother. The Lord‘s words to Jeremiah confirm this,’ I knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb; before you were born, I sanctified you and appointed you as my spokesman.’

The remarkably expressive Living bible paraphrases \David’s recognition of this in Psalm 139.  ‘You made all the delicate, inner parts of the body, and knit them together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex. It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvellous. You were there while I was being formed in utter seclusion.  You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. ‘

Think about the brain. Recently I discussed with a Chinese friend from Washington DC the 7 languages he spoke.  He returned home to the USA via the Middle East and Holland. Although Chinese is his mother tongue, and he had not spoken Dutch for 15 years, on his arrival in Amsterdam, he switched effortlessly to the Dutch language. ‘Isn’t the brain a marvellous organ,’ he commented with reverential awe, and ‘wonderful the works of our God.’  I agreed.

The power potential of the human brain far exceeds that generated by the Niagara Falls/ only a building full of computers and larger than the Empire State building could equal the output of the brain.  Wonderfully made!

The same mighty God, who fashioned man from the dust of the earth, also breathed into man the breath of life, and he became a living creature. Sadly, sin marred this perfect creation, and separated us from God.  Yet in His love, He reconciled us through the death, blood shedding and sacrifice of an animal. God covered Adam and Eve with skins, necessitating sacrifice, before He expelled them from the garden of Eden. In the love of God, His mercy preceded chastisement. A picture, too, of His own beloved Son one day to be the supreme sacrifice for sin.

Spanning the years, Paul framed his prayer for the Thessalonians. ‘I pray the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray your whole spirit and soul (mind, emotions, and will) and body be presumed blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.’

While much could be written about spirit, soul and body, yet Christians often suffer in their minds.  The Creator of our varying, miraculous, bodily processes also provides for our mind.  Through Paul we know that ’the peace of God which is more than we can understand will keep our thoughts and hearts at rest.’  How is this possible? The recipe has 6 ingredients. (Philippians 4:4-6) Always be joyful. Continue unselfish and considerate.  Don’t be anxious.  Pray about everything. Tell God all your needs.  Be thankful for everything. Mix them all together, resulting in a peaceful mind.  Don’t let your brain whirl with needless imaginations and plans.

Read God’s word the Bible.

Isaiah said exactly the same hundreds of years earlier, ‘Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee; because he trusts in Thee. ‘Perfect peace really means double, superlative, permanent wholeness. The God who fashioned our bodies is able to make our spirits whole through our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Here is the promise of wholeness of mind. Perfect peace results when ‘the mind is stayed on Thee.’  The mind produces thoughts and imaginations.  Mostly our imagination works overtime, turns circles, leading us into all kinds of worry and fear, so that there is no peace at all. Our thoughts and imaginations are to be ’stayed’ on HIM, meaning stops at God. So, when the mind rests in God, fears, imaginations, and worries are handed over to Him, and we stop there. Then perfect peace follows.

Our glorious God, who made us spirit, soul and body, is able to keep us blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.’
