NINETY YEARS OF THE GRACE OF GOD

The Lord has been so gracious over these decades:   including the world depression, years in a bank, army experience, medical training, rural hospital in East Java; before St. Mary’s 50 years ago precisely; 27 years in family medicine; 38 years in our Fellowship;   bible teaching at home, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, later in other countries where the Lord opened doors.

I reminded our dear family of God‘s graciousness:   Ruth rang from Texas; John came from Melbourne, Judith from Sydney; while Miriam, Elisabeth   and Priscilla live locally; and the grandchildren dropped by for cakes and candles.   Yes, the right number were lit, and duly extinguished. I seized the moment to thank the Lord for His great salvation and personal tenderness.

I reminded our dear ones how much we owed to our predecessors.. My dear Mother, widowed early in life, taught me deep practical faith in our Lord Jesus, while my dear grandparents supported me and affirmed Mother‘s strong testimony.   During and after army life, many specially focused on our longing for bible study, building us up in our walk with the Lord. Great preachers from overseas injected truth into our lives.   God also raised up searching bible teachers in our city.

Gwenda kept an open house, allowing missionaries and bible teachers to stay with us: and deeply challenge us.   Over this celebration, I commended her for her character, achievement for her Lord. Gwenda wrote weekly for New Life for years, monthly for Christian Woman, teaching in CWCI and Know Your bible, which she launched from our home.   She guided our dear children, who delighted in these guests: they were mostly loved and respected.   She has been a delightful wife and partner to me.
