MARY, DEAR  MARY    Gwenda

O, Mary, dear Mary, what have you done?

You tell me you’re bearing somebody’s Son.

I will need to quietly hide you away,

Or you may be stoned by the end of the day.

But that night in a dream an angel appeared

And said to her husband, ‘Joseph do not fear

To take to yourself dear Mary as wife,

For the Babe she now carries is the bearer of Life.

You shall call His name Jesus‘ -Jehovah’s salvation,

God’s grace abounding to all people and nations.

Conceived by the Spirit, and born in the flesh

He comes to the world all its sin to unmesh.

One day He will die on a cross for all sin,

So that those who believe will by grace enter in

To the glorious gift of eternity’s life

And through resurrection He’ll give power over strife.

So Joseph accepted the angel’s assurance,

And faced Mary’s pregnancy with faith and endurance.

When Mary gave birth, Joseph named the Child Jesus -

And Emmanuel- meaning that God is now with us.

The dear Son of God became human flesh -

To reverse Adam’s sin and its awful effects.

As the God-Man He died to redeem from sin’s power

Reconciled us to God, who gives strength for each hour.

Because God is with us- Emmanuel we praise,

As we worship the Lord Jesus to the end of our days.

So REJOICE, CELEBRATE, SING SONGS OF GREAT JOY -

As we remember the birth of God’s special Boy.
