THE DEAD MAN WHO LIVED. C

Martha, Mary and Lazarus lived

In Bethany, a quaint little town.

Just a few miles’ walk from Jerusalem’s walls,

And to many their sweet home was known.

Jesus often rested and stayed in that home,

After walking and talking with crowds.

They gave Him a welcome, good food and a rest,

And to have such a guest they were proud.

When Jesus visited the Bethany friends,

He shared the good comforts of home

Because He had nowhere to lay His head,

He had no home on earth as His own.

One day when Jesus was a long distance away

His friend, Lazarus, became very sickly,

A message they sent to Jesus, their friend,

And requested that He please come quickly.

But Jeus delayed His return to their home,

And sad to say, Lazarus died,

And the sisters both wondered why Jesus stayed on,

And they sat in their home, and they cried.

The Lord came along when two days had passed,

Martha rebuked Jesus for His delay.

But Jesus spoke gently to Martha who cried,

Telling why he’d not come right away.

They took Jesus out to the family tomb,

Where Lazarus’  body was laid.

While the crowd stood and watched, Jesus quietly wept,

Then He raised His eyes and He prayed.

Then with a loud voice Jesus called to the one,

Who was known by them all to be dead.

‘Come forth, Lazarus’, as the people looked,

And though bound from his feet to his head.

Lazarus walked out, alive from the tomb,

At the call of the Lord Jesus Christ,

Who with comforting words had said to the women

Though their brother was dead, he’d have life.

They stood there rejoicing to see Lazarus alive-

And from this a lesson we receive

That instead of trusting our own ideas,

We must in the Lord Jesus believe.

For although Jesus waited for two days to pass,

When to Bethany’s home He then came,

New life He gave to the man who was dead-

And to ALL who believe on His name-

Jesus said He’ll give us new life that goes on,

A life which never will die,

For when we must leave behind home on this earth,

There’s a home waiting for us on High. ( Heaven )
