The reliable Barna Research Group announced that ‘Only half of US pastors hold a biblical worldview.’ Only 51% of Protestant pastors have a biblical view of six core beliefs ( the accuracy of biblical teaching; the sinless nature of Jesus; the literal existence of satan; the omnipotence and omniscience of God; salvation by grace alone; and the personal responsibility to evangelise.) The survey of 2000 adults found that only 4% possess a world view; while just 9% of born-again Christians possess a biblical worldview.

Of 600 senior pastors Southern Baptist had the highest percentage who hold this world-view, while the Methodists were lowest with 27%.

Where are John and Charles Wesley , and John Whitfield? They preached the Word, which saved England from the Bloody Revolution which robbed France of many of its nobles citizens. Tragically, pastors, as seminary graduates, recorded only 45%. Years of intense, costly study produced less than half who accept the majestic truths of God’s Word.

Thanks be to God for mighty scholars,, who faithfully proclaim the inerrancy of the precious Word. Oh, for Tozer, Jonathan Edwards, Martin Lloyd Jones, Colson, Lutzer.

King Jehoiakim ‘s fury blazed , persecuting Baruch the scribe and the prophet Jeremiah .’Seize them’ he savagely commanded. The omniscient ( all wise) Lord hid them, so protecting His devoted servants until the moment when they had completed life’s task.

God made the next move on His chess board . ‘The Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah saying, ‘Take yet another scroll and write on it all the former words which were in the first scroll which (the villainous ) King Jehoiakim has burned.’ (v28) Jeremiah and Baruch were focussed on recording all the eternal words of God for that moment and every generation following. God perpetuated His unchallengeable truth regardless of such opposition.

God spoke to the tyrannical king. ’You shall say to Jehoiakim , King of Judah, saying, ‘You have burned the scroll, saying ( in self-defence )’Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and cause man and beast ot cease from here.’ (v29) Our thoughts and decisions are known to our all-wise God, and cannot be hidden from HIM. Nor did HE overlook the anger that seethed in the king.

The prophecy unfolded, ‘Therefore, thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim King of Judah, with the solemn announcement, ‘He shall have no one to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night.’ The lineage of King David will not descend through this dissolute king. Imagine the horror receiving such a decree. that the royal lineage will abruptly end: furthermore that the Messiah, to come from David’s lineage, will not follow this ruthless king.

Truly the wages of sin is death. but the gift of God is eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ.. The truth applies to all men equally- regardless of rank or station.

The king must have been shocked to hear of his impending, notorious death and rejection. He will be denied the ritual burial in the family tomb. Rejected by God, he will be despised by his own people. In every generation, leaders invite God’s righteous judgment and receive a solemn sentence. Recently the former leader of Iraq, nurtured in opulence, was captured in a spider hole in squalid circumstances. He faces justice from his own judiciary and from the judgment seat of the Great white throne.

God severely ruled, ’ I will punish his family, and his servants for their iniquity, and will bring on them, on the inhabitants of Jerusalem and on the men of Judah all the doom that I have pronounced against them, but (unfortunately ) they did not heed.’(v31) Truly, ’the Judge of all the earth shall do right.’ Just as righteousness and judgment are attributes of our perfect God, so are His mercy and grace, Let’s keep the balance of truth.

God’s purpose unfolded, ’When Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, he wrote on it at Jeremiah’s intruction all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire, And besides. There were added to them many similar words. ( 32) How we should treasure all the word preserved for us.

Hide God’s Word in your heart( it will burn up junk ) that you may not sin against Him’

Treasure - don’t trash the unchangeable Word of God.

‘He who believes in the SON has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the SON shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. (John 3;36)
