GOD’S REMARKABLE PROTECTION - THE NAME OF THE TRANSPORT.

Dear family,

30 years back, a former intelligence officer visited us, enquiring if I was in the convoy from Bombay through the Red Sea.' Did I remember the pea-soup fog, wrapped around each vessel?'  'Yes, it was unforgettable, for our men moaned incessantly about missing the beauty of the coastline’ I replied. He amazed us as he divulged that the enemy air force searched daily to sink our convoy, which was shrouded with this impenetrable fog for three days. Our lives were spared; our division was highly successful in the Northern African campaign. God kept us.

Yesterday at Waitpinga, I referred to Cleopas and his associate’s request, for the risen Lord to 'Abide with me' after the painful Emmaus road walk.  This was the origin of the hymn 'Abide with me', well loved by our troops: forgotten in this generation.

I heard it sung one Sunday night as we were sailing in convoy in the Indian Ocean, though our ships were  miles apart.. I mentioned, purely for interest, the majestic Queen Mary, our four funnel Mauritania, once the blue riband Atlantic winner, and the New Zealand.  I could not recall the other ship.

Barry called me aside later. 'It was the Normandy’ How did you know? Were you in the convoy" 'No, I was in the air fleet that shielded you from U-boats through the Indian Ocean.' I had no idea that apart from the destroyers encircling us though hidden by distance that we were also under air force surveillance.

I was deeply moved, that 64 years later, I learned how God had protected us.

Isaiah promised, 'When you pass through the waters, I shall be with you.' Mother

(we were engaged to be married ) and my dear Mother prayed for His overall safeguarding.

Many other times, though we were not aware, the Lord safeguarded us.

Praise the Lord.

Please share with our grandchildren.
