THE FATHER LOVES
THE SON-HAS GIVEN ALL THINGS INTO HIS HAND. JOHN 3.
Our kind, heavenly
Father constantly gave to His Son- and to us, who are in Him.
In John 3:34, we
read, ‘God does not give the Spirit by measure . Indeed, the Father loves the
Son, and has given all things into His hand. (v35 ) Let’s examine this glorious
truth.
‘When he ascended
on high ( His triumphant ascent and return to heaven ) He led captivity
captive, and wondrously gave gifts to men.’ Think of the broad range of gifts
showered upon the people of God from every culture, pastors, teachers,
evangelists, ministry gifts, all flowing from the big-heartedness of the Lord.
I watched two Asians , won for Christ from a spirit-worshipping background,
find the Lord as Saviour; grow in their knowledge of Him and the bible; and
then become worthy elders of the infant church in their village. The Father
gave all things into His hand.
The Lord said to
Moses, ‘ Has the Lord’s Arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether my word
will befall you or not.’ So Moses gathered the seventy men of the elders of the
people and placed them around the tabernacle.
A miracle followed. Then the
Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was
upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, when
the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so
again.’ (Numbers 11:23-25 )
God mightily multiplied the ministry of His Holy
Spirit .
He longs to do the
same with you - and your loved ones.
It pleased the
Father in His overflowing kindness ’that in HIM ( that is, in Christ ) all
fullness should dwell.’ (Colossians 1: 19), enabling the glorious ministry of
reconciling all things to Himself, by HIM whether things on earth, or things in
heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.’ We thank our God
that our sure position in Christ came from the Father’s fullness. That’s why HE
has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
‘Elijah took his
mantle ( symbol of God-given righteousness )rolled it up, and struck the water;
and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them
(supernaturally ) crossed over on dry
ground. Elijah said to Elisha, ‘What may I do for you, before I am taken from
you?’ And Elijah said, ’Please let a
double portion of your spirit be upon me.’ ‘You have asked a hard thing.
Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you;
but if not, it shall not be so. ’Suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with
horses of fire, and separated the two of them,
Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven’.
Observe a glorious
conclusion to Elijah’s rapture, ‘ Elisha had taken up the mantle of Elijah,
that had fallen from him, and went back and struck the water, and said, ‘Where
is the LORD GOD of Elijah?’ ‘And when he had also struck the water, it was
divided this way and that: and Elisha crossed over.’ ( 2 Kings 2:9) An
awe-inspiring God actually performed double the number of miraculous acts
through Elisha ; fulfilling his request to Elijah. Showing old-fashioned faith
in his God, Elisha expected such response.
Paul knew of the
Father’s open-handedness, writing ‘To each one of us ( no one is excluded )
grace is given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.’ Paul showed so much
of the grace, the undeserved favour, of God, enduring much persecution
,shipwreck and hardship. He knew the immeasurable gift that the Son had
showered on him: as the Father had given all things into His hand. (Ephesians
4:7,8 )
Psalm 45 reflects
the glories of the Messiah and His bride, In verse 6, ‘Your throne, O God, is
for ever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your
kingdom. You love righteousness and
hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed You with the oil of
gladness more than your companions.’ The oil of gladness refers to the Holy
Spirit , of which oil, like water or fire, is an ideal symbol. The Father showed His deep love for His
eternal Son by anointing Him above all His companions. So precious is He.
Nearly seven
hundred years before John observed the Holy Spirit descend like a dove on the
Lord Jesus, Isaiah foretold ‘the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him. The spirit of wisdom and understanding. The
Spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the
Lord.’ (11:2 ) The Father gave not only the Holy Spirit, co-equal with HIM, but
the following attributes of His wisdom
,understanding, counsel and might; of knowledge and the fear of the lord.’
Truly the Father gave not His Spirit by measure, for He gives all things into
his hand.’ This PERSON lives in your life, undiminished with time.
In the Revelation,
John heard a loud voice from Heaven saying, ’It is done! I Am the Alpha and the
Omega, the Beginning and the End. Here is the overflowing of the Father
coursing through, ‘I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to
him that thirsts. (21:6) Omega, the
first letter in the Greek, and Omega,
the final, show that the free flood of life-giving water flowed from the
Father’s gracious heart. I trust, regardless of favourable or difficult
circumstances, you enjoy daily these
imperishable blessings.
Do you long for
deep blessings of the eternal One? They are readily available in Him, Who is
‘the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning star.’ ‘The Spirit
and the Bride say, ’Come.’ and let him who hears say, ‘Come’. And let him who
thirsts come.
And whomever
desires, let him take the water of life freely. ( Revelation 22:16,17)
Wonda came to my
clinic for her first, then later
pregnancies. As she heard of the love of God in giving HIS only beloved SON for
her salvation, so she hungered and thirsted for righteousness. Wonda drank in the truths of her redemption;
wondering at the immense, spiritual
riches. She thirsted and the Lord
assuaged her thirst. ‘None but Christ
could satisfy Wonda. No other Name for
me.’ Cancer cut short her beautiful
life; but, until her calling to heaven,
Christ filled her womanhood with His glory.
