THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, shed on the cross, CLEANSES US FROM ALL SIN.

The bible states ‘that the life of the flesh is in the blood,’ which medicine strongly confirms. How often the searching physician requests a complete blood picture. This assumes such value when we consider the life-blood sacrifice of our beloved Lord.

While you read, your heart pumps blood conveying vital oxygen and nutrition to every body cell; and purifying each cell gathering the toxic carbon dioxide and the excretory products of nutrition.  This illustrates what the blood of the Lord does in your spiritual system: and how we are utterly dependent on Him.

Judas described the blood of our Lord Jesus as pure, ‘stating he had betrayed innocent blood.’  Even as traitor, he showed the saintliness of the One he had disowned. Judas, when he saw he was condemned, remorsefully returned the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. Arrogant and callous, they replied, ‘What is that to us?’ (Matthew 27:4)  No currency can purchase His blood.

Peter wrote of his Redeemer,’ You were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,

(and then the tremendous claim) but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (1Peter 1:18, 19)  Heaven’s standard is higher than our metallic measure, surpassing gold and silver in redemptive value. No liberating truth surpasses the death of our Lord and the shedding of His blood.

Moses educated the people of Israel to value the sacrificial blood of animals, when ’He took the blood of calves and goats with water, scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book and all the people.’ saying,’ This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you. ’ Then the time-honoured principle, ’According to the law, almost all things are purged with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.’ (Hebrews 9:22)   Unless the Son of God had died in our place at Calvary, our sin could not be pardoned - nor blotted out.

Our Lord  in Hebrews as ‘the high priest of things to come,’ presenting the merit ’of His own blood‘; not that of goats and calves; He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption for us.’ (9;12-) We have a irreplaceable high priest in our Lord Jesus. The precious sacrifice of ‘His own blood’ opened the pathway to heaven’s throne for us. He had obtained the great prize of ‘eternal redemption’ for us. No man could fulfil this high function.  Worship HIM.

The Hebrews writer tells ‘If the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ , who through the eternal spirit offered Himself without spot to God purge your conscience  from dead works to serve the living God. The Old testament sacrifices of bulls and goats had been superseded by the vastly finer life-blood of God’s dear SON. The Holy Spirit offered the Lord’s sacrifice so that our conscience could be purified.  And we could serve our living God.  Who can estimate the immeasurable release when the sense of right and wrong is restored?

John boldly claimed in his letter, ‘The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin’, which agrees with John the Baptist’s mind-blowing statement, ‘Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.’ God made a perfect provision for sin in our lives: and complete provision for cleansing from sin in every nation. .Our missionary charter is founded on this truth. (1 John 1:7) Therefore, come to the communion deeply grateful for all that His sacrifice means to us.

Preceding John’s word, ‘If we walk in the light as HE is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and then the startling truth that ‘the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.’  Before we qualify for the rich fellowship with each other, we must walk, that is, breathe the air of heaven; behaving and conversing as children of the Lord, relishing the Light of God’s word and the sweet presence of the Lord himself.  When we have qualified, then the flushing-out blood of God’s Lamb cleanses us. More remarkably, He cleans up all the inward mess of our sinful lives, so purifying us.

The far-reaching victory of the Son of God on the cross obtained for us a victory over the accuser of the brethren.  John’s revelation expressed it , ’Now is salvation and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ has come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.’ (12:10)   The insolent devil prosecuted us at the throne of God in heaven, accusing us mercilessly. What hope for us?  Every expectation: because the precious blood of the SON of GOD has been shed on our behalf. What power!

How could we crush such a callous enemy?  Scripture asserts,’ They overcame him, by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of His testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death,’ (v12) The Bible includes such important truth in this verse, as we yearn for spiritual victory.  Christ has won the battle, the victory is HIS: we enter into the conquest of our Lord.  Hence, ‘they overcame by the blood of the Lamb.  Once for all time, every people, and the whole range of sins.  Powerful purifying means is now available for every blood-bought believer.

Are you victorious in your Lord’s conquest on the cross?  Or does the enemy entice and deceive you?  Allied with the powerful blood is ‘the word of His testimony.’  All through Scripture the Word confirms how the ‘life of the flesh is in the blood.’ The Word gives many types of Christ’s suffering and blood-shedding; for example, in the Passover lamb of Exodus 12 and Abraham’s offering of his only son on Mount Moriah (Genesis 22).  The word demonstrates this liberating, cleansing blood.

When you have fallen, come quickly to the Saviour, pleading the power of His precious blood.  And praise Him for this ongoing ministry, effective until heaven.
